Development of the ciliary epithelium at the pars plana of the ciliary body in chick embryo a light microscopic and electron microscopic study

Development of the ciliary epithelium at the pars plana of the ciliary body in chick embryo a light microscopic and electron microscopic study

Medical Journal of Hiroshima University 33(1): 237-250

Development of the pars plana of the ciliary body was studied by light and EM using chick embryos of various stages. The pars plana was distinguishable from the pars plicata on the 6th day of incubation (Hamburger-Hamilton stage 29). In this stage of development the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi complex markedly increased in the non-pigmented epithelium of the pars plana. Formation of the vitreous material might begin in the 6 day old embryo and continue in the older embryos.
