Differences in the developmental rates of lichens

, : Differences in the developmental rates of lichens. Annales Botanici Fennici 24(4): 385-394

The developmental rate of lichens from soredia or ascospores to mature thalli is examined in cultures in the natural habitat. The time of sowing is shown to be of importance as well as the microclimate of the different habits and the ecological amplitude of the species. Without exception the lichens investigated developed most rapidly at the location at which or in immediate proximity to which they also occur naturally.
