Differences in the growth of the gonads of the mirror carp cyprinus carpio

, : Differences in the growth of the gonads of the mirror carp cyprinus carpio. Archiv fuer Fischereiwissenschaft 29(1-2): 81-84

A study of 467 mirror carps of 100-1500 g body wt demonstrated differences in the developemt between the left and the right gonads of single fish. The right side of the body cavity, is in more than 60% of all cases, the place of the bigger gonad. The percent deviation of the single gonad weight from the half total gonad weight is greater in young animals than in older ones and more pronounced in males than in females. Possible influences on the reproductive physiology are discussed.
