Differences in the particle size selection of diatoms between larvae of the campestric blackfly species simulium reptans and odagmia ornata diptera simuliidae

, : Differences in the particle size selection of diatoms between larvae of the campestric blackfly species simulium reptans and odagmia ornata diptera simuliidae. Archiv fuer Hydrobiologie 105(4): 531-548

Blackfly larvae of the campestric species Odagmia ornata and Simulium reptans were dominant in the most investigated running waters around Freiburg in Breisgau [West Germany]. The number and size distribution of diatoms in the stream current and in the gut contents of 6th and 7th of both blackfly species were compared. The results showed interspecific differences for the particle selection of diatoms.
