Differences in the resistance of 2 lines of solanum acaule to potato virus x and tobacco mosaic virus

Differences in the resistance of 2 lines of solanum acaule to potato virus x and tobacco mosaic virus

Mikrobiologicheskii Zhurnal (Kiev) 46(6): 52-58

Two lines of S. acaulae f. schreiteri Buk. are studied for their affection with the potato virus X (PVX), and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). Most plants (84-91%) of line 7k154 being mechanically inoculated with the PVX form no affection signs and the virus is not revealed in tissues. The plant resistance is also retained when plants are inoculated with infectious RNA of the PVX. Line N 4, vice versa, is highly susceptible to the PVX. Plants of both lines are affected with the TMV though differently; signs of the disease are more expressed in line 7k154 than in line N 4. Development of the viral infection in plants depends essentially on virus concentration in the inoculum. A variant of the TMV is isolated out of line 7k154 plants. It differs from the initial one in virulence to hypersensitive thorn apple and tobacco plants.
