Different antigenic properties and alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme activity of cytoplasmic liver fractions

Different antigenic properties and alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme activity of cytoplasmic liver fractions

Organ-specific antigenic properties and alcohol dehydrogenase activity (ADH) of human and rat cytoplasmic liver fractions precipitated and not precipitated by rivanol were compared. These fractions differed in organ-specific antigenic properties, with ADH activity being largely detectable in the non-precipitated fraction. The effects of heating (45.degree.-60.degree. C), ether and chloroform on the non-precipitated fraction showed that these factors exerted an inconsistent effect on ADH activity and organ-specific antigenic properties. Proteins responsible for organ-specific antigenic properties and ADH activity of the non-precipitated fraction are not identical.
