Direct determination of trace and sub trace metals in natural waters by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry use of long lasting sessile drop mercury electrodes compared to commercial hanging drop mercury electrodes kemula type

Direct determination of trace and sub trace metals in natural waters by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry use of long lasting sessile drop mercury electrodes compared to commercial hanging drop mercury electrodes kemula type

Analytical Letters 15(19): 1565-1584

The performance of a new kind of semistationary Hg electrode (i.e., LLSDME [long-lasting sessile-drop Hg electrode]) was compared to that of some commercially available Kemula electrodes (Metrohm and Tacussel HMDE [hanging-drop Hg electrode]) in the direct determination of metals at trace and subtrace levels by DPASV [differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry] technique. This results obtained in the stripping analysis of a pure electrolyte solution and seawater samples showed that a LLSDME offered better reproducibility, better sensitivity and a lower detection limit (down to 50 ng/l). Using HMDE with silicone-coated capillaries (necessary for HMDE when testing a solution containing surface-active substances) produced poorer sensitivity and reproducibility.
