Fusiform rust [Cronartium fusiforme] was found in nearly all of the surveyed region of the pine range in E Texas [USA]. Loblolly pine [Pinus taeda] averaged 9% rust infection. The highest rust incidence in loblolly pine occurred in SE Texas where over 25% of the pines in several plantations had visible rust galls. Slash pine [P. elliottii var. elliottii] averaged 30% fusiform rust infection. The highest rust incidence on slash pine also occurred in SE Texas where over 65% of the slash pines in several plantations had rust galls. Rust incidence in slash pine generally decreased from E to W in Texas. Several plantations at the W edge of the pine range had no rust present.
