Abstract
Paleogene planktonic foraminifer zones P1 to P11 are represented in strata of the Anita, "Matilija", and "Cozy Dell" Formations of the Santa Ynez Mountains [USA]. Additionally, 1 Cretaceous planktonic foraminifer zone, the Globotruncana fornicata-G. stuartiformis zone is represented in Anita strata and the subjacent Jalama Formation. Eleven calcareous nannoplankton zones can be discerned in the early Tertiary succession ranging from the Discoaster mohleri zone below to the Reticulofenestra umbilica zone above. The basal portion of the sequence (early Paleocene) is barren of calcareous nannofossils. Two Late Cretaceous zones are also recognized: Tetralithus trifidus and Micula mura.
