P. lanceolata, commonly found in fields in semi-arid tracts of north western India, is a problem weed. It has tremendous potential for modulating its life-cycle strategies in response to diverse ecological stresses by acting as a competitor, a reactor or a resistor. The control of this weed through conventional methods is nearly impossible. The adaptive strategies of the weed are discussed.
