Ecological studies on the olive scale insect leucaspis riccae hemiptera homoptera diaspididae in iraq

Ain Shams University Faculty of Agriculture Research Bulletin 1668: 1-12

Certain ecological aspects of the olive scale insect, L. riccae Targ., were studied. Two generations were observed. The spring generation, which started at the end of April, continued until mid-Aug., and the fall generation from mid-Aug. to the 2nd 1/2 of April. Significant differences were found in the population densities of both crawlers and settled stages which occurred during the year. June and Sept. were the most favorable periods for the occurrence of all stages. No crawler was observed during winter season. The western and middle parts of the tree harbored the majority of the population. Selected Hawiga (1) was the least susceptible to infestation among the 5 local cultivars of olive tested.
