Ecology of seed dormancy and germination for various species of the genus impatiens

Among the 8 studied species 5 (I. balfourii, I. glandulifera, I. capensis, I. parviflora and I. noli-tangere) showed a chilling requirement for germination, whereas another (I. balsamina) had a drying requirement; the last 2 (I. irvingii and I. sultani) did not have any seed dormancy. The germination requirements were very different and the seed storage environments may modify them diversely. The thermal relationships of germination are also considered.
