Four chemicals (nicotinic acid, Ethrel, succinic acid and GA3) were tried as seed treatment in this trial on G. hirsutum (variety F-414). The use of GA3 caused significant increase in hypocotyl length and dry weight of the aboveground parts of the seedlings but reduced dry weight of the roots. Nicotinic acid (140 ppm) proved most effective for the production of seed cotton per boll and total seed cotton yield.
