Effect of crude ginseng saponin and raw ginseng juice on the growth of ginseng root rot organisms fusarium solani and erwinia carotovora

Macroconidial germination of F. solani was decreased as crude saponin concentration increased; germination percentage was much reduced when the concentration was > 500 ppm. Spore production of F. solani was also reduced as crude saponin concentration increased, particularly on a solid medium. Mycelial growth decreased when crude saponin was added, while the effect of the concentration was not apparently significant. Higher concentration of raw ginseng juice increased the growth of F. solani. Growth of E. carotovora was enhanced by crude ginseng saponin and raw ginseng juice. Crude ginseng saponin stimulated the growth of E. carotovara as concentration increased. More growth of the bacteria was obtained with 1% raw ginseng juice.
