Effect of fertilization and soil moisture on seed quality of soybean glycine max

The present study had as objectives to verify the quality of the seeds, produced by 3 soybean cultivars at various levels of fertilization and different levels of soil acidity and moisture, and to determine the point of physiological maturity of seeds from Bragg, IAS-4 and Davis cultivars. The seeds came from a field experiment in paddy soils, located at Estacao Experimental da Palma, Universidade Federal de Pelotas, Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul [Brazil]. Factors studied and corresponding treatments to the various levels of each factor were: lime-no addition, addition of 1/2 SMP recommendation for pH 6.0 and addition of 1 SMP recommendation; P-100 kg/ha P2O5, 200 kg/ha P2O5 and 300 kg/ha P2O5; K-50 kg/ha K2O, 100 kg/ha K2O and 150 kg/ha K2O cultivars Bragg, IAS-4 and Davis: soil moisture-conditionated by weather, adequate and excessive. Seed quality was determined through germination and vigor tests. Determination of the physiological maturity was based on moisture content, dry matter, seed germination and vigor. No significant difference in quality of seeds yielded in different levels of P and K fertilization was detected. The correction soil acidity, at the level of 1/2 SMP recommendation, was harmful to the germination from seeds produced cultivar Davis. The emergence speed from seeds of all cultivars increased with increasing of lime dosage. Physiological maturity of the seeds was reached at 140 days after seeding.
