Effect of fertilization on yield and quality of red spice pepper

Effect of fertilization on yield and quality of red spice pepper

Savremena Poljoprivreda 32(1-2): 37-46

The main target in the production of red spice pepper is to obtain a high yield of quality fruits, with high contents of dry matter and coloring substances. This target may be achieved by adequate mineral nutrition. This study was undertaken with the aim of establishing the effects of different doses of mineral fertilizers on yield and quality of red spice pepper. Experiments were conducted in 1977 and 1978 on chernozem soil. The variety HS-2 was examined in the following variants of mineral nutrition: (1) N80 P80 K80, (2) N160 P80 K80, (3) N80 P160 K80, (4) N80 P80 K160, (5) N160 P160 K160, and (6) control which was unfertilized. Variant 5 brought the highest yields of marketable and dry fruits-18.2 and 3.2 t/ha, respectively. Variant 2 was in the second place, the respective yields being 16.8 and 2.9 t/ha. Variant 5 brought the highest content of dry matter (17.89%), variants 4 and 5 the highest contents of coloring substances (6.21 and 5.60 gr/kg, respectively.
