Effect of fertilizing on the chemical composition of maize at different growth stages

Three year field experiments (1978-1981) were used in order to investigate the influence of amount of N and P fertilizers applied on the chemical composition and concentration of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe and Al in different plant tissues at different growth stages of corn (hybrid H-708). The corn plants were cultivated on leached cinnamonic forest soil (Chromic Luvisols by F.A.O Legend) under irrigation. There were five fertilizer treatments (in kg active substance per hectare) NoPo; N260, P170, N210, P130; N160, P100 and N110, P70. It was found that the increasing of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer levels causes an increase of N and P content in the plant tissues only during the initial growth stages of corn plants. The amount of fertilizers applied do not effect significantly the concentration of P, Ca, Mg,Na and Fe in plants, but the content of nitrogen in root increases with the increasing of fertilizer doses. Generally, the sum of cations in plant tissues did not depend on the fertilizers applied, but depended on the growth stage being lower at the advanced stages. There was not any correlation between the sum of cations in corn plants and N percentage content in plant tissues.
