Effect of fertilizing on the microflora and fungistasis in a soil under pepper monoculture

A three-year study was carried out to establish the effect of organic, mineral and organomineral tertilizer application on the soil microflora and the fungistatic activity in the soil with regard to the phytopathological fungi Verticillium dahliae, Rhizoctonia solani, Rh. tomato, Colletotrichum atramentarium and C. phomoides. The soil used in the experiment was planted to monoculture pepper. It was alluvial meadow in type, low in humus (0.72%), total N (0.05%) and available P (28 mg P2O5/100 g soil), slightly alkaline. The experiment showed organic fertilizers to encourage the growth of soil microorganisms and increase soil fungistatic activity against C. atramentarium by up to 28% and against C. phomoides by up to 14%. Mineral fertilizers inhibited microbial reproduction when applied at high rates and increased soil fungistatic activity against Rh. solani by up to 24% and against V. dahliae by up to 15%. Organomineral fertilizers promoted fungistatic activity to a lesser degree but their effect was felt by all studied fungi, except Rh. tomato the sensitivity of which to the soil fungistasis was shown to be independent of fertilizing.
