Effect of fertilizing with sludge on content of some elements in orchard grass dactylis glomerata

The fertilizing effects of tanning industry sludge on the accumulation of some elements, especially Cr, in grass, were investigated. The 1st and 2nd cuts of grass and base stem tissue were analyzed with atomic absorption spectrometry (Varian 1000). Sludge which contained 26-28 mg/g dry matter of total and 780-1120 ppm exchangeable Cr gave fertilizing doses of 7, 28 and 112 g sludge/pot, representing 2.4, 9.6 and 38.4 ppm of Cr. At the highest dose of sludge (112 g) the content of Cr rose in stem base tissue to 11 ppm. The superphosphate was added to reduce the high amounts of available Cr.
