Effect of fluazifop butyl on soil microflora

Effect of fluazifop butyl on soil microflora

Pochvoznanie Agrokhimiya i Rastitelna Zashtita 22(6): 35-38

A field experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of 20% fluazifop-butyl (trade-name Fusilade) as applied at the rates of 4 and 6 ml/ha on the microbiological and biochemical activities in a meadow boggy soil. Samples for the analysis were taken from the 0-15 cm depth on days 7, 14, 40 and 90 after the herbicide application. Determinations were made of the numbers of bacteria, actinomycetes and microscopic fungi. Total biological activity was simultaneously assessed from the CO2-evolution. Fusilade was found to stimulate nonsporophorous and sporophorous bacteria growth for 40 days, especially when applied at the lower rate of 4 ml/ha. The preparation did not affect the development of actinomycetes. Its effect on fungi depended on the application rate, the lower one stimulating and the higher one inhibiting their growth.
