Effect of fluorosis on glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase activities and sulfhydryl groups

Glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase activities and the concentration of SH groups in the liver and brain of albino rats with fluorosis were studied in experiments. Chronic F intoxication increased glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase activities and decreased the concentration of reduced thiols. The increase of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase activities being a protective reaction of the organism in response to the increasing rate of lipid peroxidation in fluorosis did not prevent the rise of lipoperoxide concentration in the organs. These changes were accompanied by decreased concentration of reduced thiols, which played an important role in cell metabolism.
