The effects of different N rates and cutting heights on forage quality and dry matter yield of sorghum-sudangrass hybrid were studied. The experiment was arranged as a split plot design and undertaken over a 5 mo. period from May to Sept., 1981 and 1982. A nonsignificant relationship was revealed between N content in plant and either level of N fertilizer or stubble height except 2nd harvest. N yield increased significantly as the level of N fertilizer increased (P < 0.05). The NDF [neutral detergent fiber], ADF [acid detergent fiber], cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin contents of forage were not affected by N fertilization and stubble height. No significant difference between dry matter yield and cutting height was found. Yield tends to increase in the high stubble height and high N fertilization. Fifteen kilogram N/10 a [acre] is recommended for high yield of sorghum-sudangrass hybrid Pioneer 988.
