Effect of nitrogen on yield and its uptake of nitrogen at different growth stages of raya brassica juncea coss

Field experiments at Haryana Agricultural University, Hissar (Haryana, India) were conducted to find out the effect of different nitrogen levels (0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 kg/ha) on dry matter, grain yield and uptake of nitrogen in three varieties of raya (Parkash, RH 30 and RH 7513). Response to nitrogen in all the varieties was observed up to 90 kg N/ha. The agronomic efficiency of Parkash, RH 30 and RH 7513 was 7.6, 8.5 and 8.9 kg grain/kg of nitrogen respectively. The order of physiological efficiency, however, was : RH 30 > RH 7513 > Parkash. Increasing nitrogen levels increased its concentration and uptake. Of the total nitrogen absorbed, 22.9, 25.4 and 21.8 and 91.6, 87.8 and 71.9% at 120 kg N/ha was absorbed at 45 and 90 days by Parkash, RH 30 and RH 7513 respectively.
