Effect of post harvest calcium treatments on the storage life of guava psidium guajava fruits

The dipping of fruits in various concentrations of calcium nitrate minimized the loss in weight, reduced the rate of respiration and disease percentage and finally maintained the edible quality of guava (P. guajava) fruits for more than 6 days. The untreated fruits remained in acceptable conditions for 3 days only. Treatment with 1% calcium nitrate showed beneficial effects in prolonging the storage life of guava fruits by delaying the onset of senescence under storage.
