Effect of prolonged use of oral contraceptive pills on the activity of serum and vaginal rnase

Bulletin of the Alexandria Faculty of Medicine 16(2): 359-366

Effect of prolonged use of oral contraceptive pills on the activity of serum and vaginal rnase

The activity of free alkaline RNase was measured in vaginal fluid [an aid in the diagnosis of invasive cervical cancer] and serum of 69 females of reproductive age, 39 of whom were long-term (12-15 yr) oral contraceptive pill users. The other 30 never used any form of contraceptive pills and were taken as control subjects. Oral contraceptive pills, cervical infection and Trichomonal vaginitis increase the RNase activity. The implications of this increase are discussed.
