Effect of propranolol on the insulin secretion in acromegaly

, : Effect of propranolol on the insulin secretion in acromegaly. Clujul Medical 53(1): 16-21

Hyperglycemia was induced in 6 acromegalic patients and 4 healthy subjects by i.v. propranolol injection. Insulin concentration was determined immunologically before and after i.v. propranolol. The .beta.-blocking agent increased the peak glycemia in acromegalic patients but did not affect the insulinemia curve in patients or healthy subjects. In obesity insulin secretion is inhibited. The hyperglycemic response to propranolol is not due to inhibition of insulin secretion.
