An experiment involving 3 levels of N (0, 30 and 60 kg N/ha) and 5 applications: T1.sbd.full dose of N at sowing (soil); T2.sbd.1/2 at sowing (soil) + 1/2 at active tillering (35 days after sowing through soil); T3.sbd.1/3 at sowing (soil) + 1/3 at active tillering (soil) + 1/3 at flag leaf stage (soil); T4.sbd.1/3 at sowing soil) at active tillering (soil) + 1/3 at flag leaf stage (foliar); T5.sbd.nil at sowing + 1/2 active tillering (soil) + 1/2 at flag leaf stage (soil) was conducted at Raja Balwant Singh College research Farm Bichpuri, Agra [India] during 2 consecutive rabi seasons of 1978-79 and 1979-80 on a sandy loam soil of medium fertility under irrigated conditions. The hull-less barley variety I.B.-65 may be grown with 60 kg N/rhr; this dose can be given in 2 splits.sbd.1/2 N at sowing as basal dressing and 1/2 N at active tillering (35 days after sowing) as top-dressing.
