Effect of sowing date on seed yield and yield components of cultivar poorbi raya brassica juncea

An experiment was conducted for two years to find the optim planting time of Poorbi raya [Brassica juncea]. The yield differences among different planting dates were statistically significant during both years. Planting done during 3rd week of September resulted in maximum seed yield of 1397.75 kg/ha. Present investigations also showed that three weeks delay in planting from 3rd week of September suppressed the number of branches and pods per plant which in turn caused more than 100 percent reduction in yield. Hence planting during 3rd week of September was considered the most appropriate for maximum yield potential in Poorbi raya, [in Pakistan].
