The effect of straw and ammonium nitrate on the growth, N fixation and yield of Glycine max (L) Merr. cv. 'Caloria' was studied in a pot culture experiment on sandy loam with 5 treatments consisting of control, 9 and 18 g straw/pot and 0.9 and 1.8 g N pot as NH4NO3. Straw incorporation prior to sowing increased N2(C2H2) fixation per plant and the number of leaflets, leaf wt, dry matter production and grain yield. The highest grain yield of 86% over the control was obtained with a low dose of N.
