Effect of the directed selection of hybrids of spring wheat cultivar ostka popularna x cultivar pembina on the different content of protein in grains

The content of protein in grains of wheat plants P1 ('Ostka Popularna'), P2 ('Pembina'), F2, F3 and F4 was investigated in 2 series of experiments. A considerable influence of the environmental variability on the level of this feature was found. The heritability in broad sense in generation F2 was 33-41%. The phenotypic correlation between generations F2/F3 was on the level r [correlation coefficient] = 0.38-0.39. Generations F4 of the higher protein content were commonly characterized by a small number of grains per ear (r = -0.30).
