Effect of the distance and proportion of the pollen donor variety on fruit setting and fruit yield in pandy sour cherry/

Effect of the distance and proportion of the pollen donor variety on fruit setting and fruit yield in pandy sour cherry/

Acta Agronomica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae 26(1-2): 87-89

Investigations were performed on 2 oblong plots: one planted with 'Pandy' sour cherry only, the other with 'Germersdorfi orias' cherry. The cherry was spaced at 13 .times. 8 m, the sour cherry at 8 .times. 6 m. Fruit yield per tree in 'Pandy' sour cherry was highest (48.5 kg) with a 1:1 ratio of the pollen donor variety; in a 1:3 ratio the decrease in the fruit yield per tree was high (18.0 kg/tree). The fruit yield of 'Pandy' was 48.5 kg at a distance of 10 m from the pollen donor variety, 26.5 kg at 18 m, 20.5 kg at 34 m and 15.0 kg at 50 m. With increasing distance from the pollen source, fruit yield per tree decreased; over a distance of 58 m the trees produced practically no fruit.
