Effect of time and level of nitrogen and phosphorus application on the yield of berseem trifolium alexandrinum fodder and its chemical composition

The effect of the split application of N and P on the yield and chemical composition of berseem was studied on a Sierogem soil of Hissar (Haryana, India) in a split-plot design. The combinations of 3 levels of P (0, 21.8, 43.6 kg of P/ha) and 2 levels of N (0, 50 kg of N/ha) constituted the main treatments, and 3 times the application formed the subtreatments. Significant responses were obtained to the application of both N and P and the highest yield was obtained with 50 kg of N + 43.6 kg of P/ha. The split application of fertilizers was inferior to that of the fertilizers as a single dose at the time of sowing. P applied through single superphosphate increased S content and, thereby, decreased the N-S ratio in the berseem folder due to the S content in single superphosphate.
