Effects of morphine anesthesia and thalamonal anesthesia on myo cardial blood flow after coronary artery ligation

Japanese Journal of Anesthesiology 31(2): 145-152

Experimental myocardial infarction was produced in dogs. The myocardial tissue blood flow (MBF) was measured with H clearance method and the effect of morphine and thalamonal anesthesia on myocardial ischemia was studied. In the normal heart, morphine and thalamonal decreased myocardial blood flow slightly. in the ischemic heart, the myocardium was classified into 3 areas depending on the grade of change in myocardial blood flow after coronary artery (LAD) ligation. In the intact and adjacent area, myocardial blood flow decreased slightly or moderately. In the ischemic area, myocardial blood flow did not decrease at all after morphine, but it decreased remarkably after thalamonal. Morphine anesthesia was apparently better than thalamonal anesthesia for the ischemic heart.
