Effects of mutation leading to disruption of histidine biosynthesis on lipids and fatty acids in the strain candida tropicalis d 2

TLC and gas chromatography were used to study the lipid and fatty acid content of C. tropicalis D-2 and its histidine-deficient mutant to discover a way to use histidine deficiency as a criterion for strain differentiation. Differences in quantitative distributions of neutral lipids and saturated and unsaturated fatty acids with different C chain lengths were presented. Destruction of histidine biosynthesis in C. tropicalis D-2 led to important changes in quantitative relationships of different neutral lipid fractions.
