Effects of semi scaffold limb pruning and shoot pinching on the growth and bearing of sweet cherries

Effects of semi scaffold limb pruning and shoot pinching on the growth and bearing of sweet cherries

Lucrari Stiintifice Institutul Agronomic "Nicolae Balcescu" Horticultura 28: 53-58

The researches were conducted on 8-year-old cherry trees (cultivars Ramon, Oliva, Boambe de Cotnari and Germersdorf) on seedlings planted at 5 .times. 5 m distance and trained to "freely flattened". The experiment comprised four pruning and pinching treatments. The best results were obtained when the 3-year-old semiscaffold limbs were 1/3 headed back and the shoots were pinched at 30 cm (Treatment 4). Stem diameter was significantly increased and the number of the bearing limbs and the yields were very significantly increased when this treatment was applied to cherry trees.
