Abstract
Effect of type and diameter of cuttings of Suwon poplar (Populus koreana x P. nigra var. italica) on growth and topophysis of rooted cuttings have been investigated. The results were obtained as follows. 1. Angle between stem and the earth surface was measured for topophysis and the angle close to 90.degree. is consisdered to be good. Angle of stem of rooted cuttings were 79.9.degree. for main stem cutting and 78.6.degree. for lateral stem cutting. The angles between types (main and lateral stem) of cuttings showed significant difference at 1% level, respectively. 2. The growth of cuttings was greatly affected by cutting diameter. Basal diameter growth of rooted cuttings showed 16.4 mm for cuttings ranged 6 .apprx. 10 mm and 19.3 mm for cuttings ranged 11 .apprx. 15 mm in diameter. Height growth of rooted cuttings showed 274 cm for the cuttings ranged 6 .apprx. 10 mm and 320 cm for the cuttings ranged 11 .apprx. 15 mm in diameter. Growth of diameter and height of rooted cuttings by cutting diameter showed significant difference in 1% level, respectively. 3. The stem angle of rooted cuttings was significantly affected by diameter of cuttings. The angle of stem of rooted cuttings showed 78.degree. for cutting diameter ranged 6 .apprx. 10 mm and 80.4.degree. for cutting 11 .apprx. 15 mm, regardless type of cutting. Angle of main stem cuttings ranged 16 .apprx. 20 mm in diameter showed 82.2.degree. Stem straightness (vertical) of rooted cutting increased with increase of cutting diameter. 4. Survival of cuttings showed above 90 percent, regardless of type and diameter of cuttings.
