Rod shaped virus particles (poty and carla viruses) were observed in garlic and shallot. A virus common in garlic is the garlic mosaic virus. A potyvirus was also observed in this host. Shallot was infected by a carla virus sometimes associated with a potyvirus. Plants doubly infected showed severe leaf deformation.
