Electrophoretic study of ribosomal proteins in chlamydomonas reinhardii yellow mutants

, : Electrophoretic study of ribosomal proteins in chlamydomonas reinhardii yellow mutants. Fiziologiya Rastenii (Moscow) 28(1): 144-149

The yellow mutants (y-27, y-28 and y-76) of C. reinhardii cells were shown to contain, similar to the wild type cells, 70 S and 80 S ribosomes, the relative content of the latter being identical in both cell types. Some changes in the protein composition of chloroplast ribosomes were observed in y-27 and y-76 mutants. The lack of 1 protein with non-Mendelian character in y-27 indicates that the protein is coded by chloroplast DNA and that the plastid DNA is involved in biogenesis of ribosomal proteins in chloroplasts. These findings present evidence that the mutations of C. reinhardii cells, bringing about the disturbances in chlorophyll accumulation in the dark, may be related to some changes in chloroplast ribosomes.
