Electrophoretically different primary leaf peroxidases as biochemical marker in seedlings of winter wheat
Electrophoretic patterns of primary leaf peroxidase in winter wheat show 5 anodic main bands and allow the distinction 1 R (1 B)-wheat-rye-substitution and 1 B-1 R-translocation forms by means of a characteristic doublet of bands 1 and m from wheats with a normal set of chromosomes and a doublet of bands m and s. These results reveal that only the peroxidase s absent both in substitution and translocation lines is genetically located on the short arm of the chromosome 1 B; the band 1 is controlled by the chromosome 1 R. The use of these biochemical markers in wheat breeding is described.
