Electrophysiological effects of intravenous diltiazem. Experimental study in dogs

The study was carried out on 7 mongrel dogs anaesthetized with thipoental and open-chested. The electrophysiological effects of 0.2 mg/kg of diltiazem given. i.v. during one minute were studied. Two bipolar epicardial electrodes placed in the right atrium and one placed in the right ventricle were used to perform programmed stimulation and to obtain the atrial electrogram. The hisiogram was recorded using a catheter-electrode introduced through venous approach.
