Electrophysiological investigation of peripheral neuromuscular changes in the elderly

, : Electrophysiological investigation of peripheral neuromuscular changes in the elderly. Medicina Geriatrica 20(2): 123-127

The results of investigation by EMG of 252 elderly patients average age 73 years with suspected neuromuscolar disorders are described. A positive diagnosis was offered in 178 (70.6%) patients, there was no evidence of neurophysiological disorders in 66 patients (26.2%), only while 8 patients (3.2%) had dubious results. Finally the value of current electrophysiological techniques in the diagnosis and management of peripheral neuromuscolar disorders in the elderly is discussed.
