Endoscopic analysis on 165 remnant stomachs

One hundred thirty seven patients with benign gastric disorders and 28 patients with gastric carcinoma after subtotal gastrectomy were examined by gastroscopy. In most of the patients revealed chronic inflammation and atrophy of at the anastomotic stoma the mucosa but at least seven samples of biopsy each time. It was found that three patients developed cancer and foru patients had recurrent gastric carcinoma. Serum gastrin level in 31 patients was determined 41.2 .+-. 5.9pg/ml. lower than the standard (57.1 .+-. 6.1pg/ml, n = 34). It was suggested that subtotal gastrectomy of benign gastric disorders should be performed after careful consideration.
