Endoscopic and anatomopathologic correlation in chronic gastritis and duodenitis

Endoscopic and anatomopathologic correlation in chronic gastritis and duodenitis

Revista Cubana de Medicina 26(1): 24-36

Our experience with regard to endoscopic and anatomopathologic correlation in 110 cases with chronic gastritis (CG) and 61 cases with chronic duodenitis (CD), from a total of 1730 reviewed endoscopies, is exposed. In each case, a first histologic examination, knowing previous endoscopic diagnosis, and a second microscopic examination, without knowing previous diagnosis, were performed. For each group of affections, good positive correlation indices in cases with CG (92,7 and 85,5%) and even better in cases with CD (98,4 and 93,4%) were achieved according to first or second histologic examination, respectively. There was a discrete correlation degree with regard to intensity of CG between both anatomopathologic examinations and endoscopy and even less within both histologic results, since pathologists do not have at their disposal enough material for biopsy.
