Endoscopic appearance of crohns disease of the large intestine

Endoscopic appearance of crohns disease of the large intestine

Terapevticheskii Arkhiv 52(2): 86-89

The results of colonoscopy and ileoscopy were analyzed in 86 patients with primarily diagnosed Crohn's disease of the large and small intestines and in 4 patients with relapses after radical operations. All the observations were classified according to the localization and the extent of affection. Endoscopic data helped single out 3 process phases: infiltrative phase, fissure phase and cicatrization phase. Polymorphic ulcerative defects are most characteristic of Crohn's disease with a less marked affection of the mucosa in contradistinction to nonspecific ulcerative colitis. The classical symptom of cobble-stone road is not so often encountered, in view of which it cannot be considered decisive in the diagnosis of the disease.
