Endoscopic characteristics of bronchopulmonary carcinoma a study of 226 endoscopies

Endoscopic characteristics of bronchopulmonary carcinoma a study of 226 endoscopies

Revista Clinica Espanola 178(1): 8-10

The authors studied the findings for 226 patients who underwent fiberoptic bronchoscopy for primary pulmonary neoplasia. Macroscopic alteration of the bronchial mucosa was found in 93%. The right bronchial system was most often involved (114 cases). The least visible tumors were adenocarcinomas and giant cell anaplasia (p < 0.05). Infiltrations of the mucosa and tumour images were the predominant macroscopic findings. Directed bronchoscopy was both the most sensitive (82%) and specific technique (97%) for establishing the histopathological diagnosis of the lesions.
