Endoscopic percutaneous pyelotomy endopyelotomy the procedure and its advantages or disadvantages

Nishinihon Journal of Urology 49(3): 781-784

Endoscopic percutaneous pyelotomy was used in 4 cases of uretero-pelvic obstruction. Having established the percutaneous access, a guidewire was introduced through the nephrostomy tube across the uretero-pelvic junction down into the ureter. Then, an optical urethrotome was directed so that an incision was made at the inferolateral angle, cutting according to the guidewire, thus completing the pyelotomy. The ureter was then stented for three to four weeks with a silicone rubber stent. Obstruction was relieved in 3 out of 4 cases ureteropelvic obstruction. The technical details and advantages of this approach are outlined and discussed.
