Endoscopic removal of a duodenal foreign body report of two cases

Endoscopic removal of a duodenal foreign body report of two cases

Gastroenterological Endoscopy 30(3): 612-616

Two cases of endoscopic removal of duodenal foreign bodies were reported. Case 1: A 24-year-old woman accidentally swallowed a teaspoon. Six hours later X-ray examination showed the teaspoon in the 2nd portion of the duodenum, which was successfully removed with endoscopic manipulation on the same day. Case 2: A 26-year-old man accidentally swallowed two dental reamers during dental treatment. Three hours later, one dental reamer in the stomach was successfully removed with endoscopic manipulation, but the other in the 1st portion of the duodenum could not be removed. On the 27th day after the accident, the reamer was found in the 3rd portion of the duodenum by X-ray examination and then did not move further more. On the 51st day, the reamer was perorally removed with endoscopic manuplation. There were no complications in both cases during and after treatment. Endoscopic removal of foreign bodies in the duodenum should be done immediately and carefully without expectation of spontaneous discharge.
