Endoscopic removal of ingested foreign bodies

Endoscopic removal of ingested foreign bodies

Indian Pediatrics 25(5): 443-446

During one year period, 12 ingested foreign bodies were recovered from 12 children. In seven patients, foreign bodies were retrieved from esophagus and stomach endoscopically and in four patients they were passed per rectum spontaneously. In one infant foreign body was removed from posterior pharynx by forceps under direct laryngoscopy. No untoward complications were encountered. Endoscopic removal of foreign bodies in children is a safe procedure in experienced hands.
