Endoscopic sphincterotomy in patients with Billroth II gastrectomy

Endoscopic sphincterotomy in patients with Billroth II gastrectomy

Endoscopy 12(1): 16-22

Methods for endoscopic spincterotomy (EST) in patients with Billroth-II partial gastrectomy are described. The techniques were successfully used in 13 out of 18 patients with common bile duct calculi (n = 12) and papillary carcinoma (n = 1). In all patients, the calculi were passed after EST. In 1 case, cholangitis occurred after EST. The patient was successfully treated with antibiotics. EST may be performed in most cases with a previous Billroth II operation using differentiated endoscopic techniques.
