Endoscopic study of gastric inflammatory fibrinoid polyp analysis of 15 cases

Endoscopic study of gastric inflammatory fibrinoid polyp analysis of 15 cases

Revista Espanola de las Enfermedades del Aparato Digestivo 73(6): 687-690

A series is presented of 15 cases of gastric inflammatory fibroid polyp diagnosed by endoscopic polypectomy over a 12-year period, out of a total of 48,500 gastroscopies, representing an incidence of 0.3%. Age ranged between 50 and 60 years, with a similar distribution between sexes, and epigastric pain was the most representive clinical symptom. Endoscopically, they appeared as single lesions of benign aspect, sessile or pediculated, 1 to 2 cm in size (73%), situated in the antral submucosa. With frequency, the overlying mucosa presented ulceration (66.6%). Independently, one polyp was associated with an intestinal type adenocarcinoma situated in the antral region. Another case presented adenovillous transformation of the mucous lining signs of atypia. We think that endoscopic polypectomy is the most appropriate method of diagnosis and treatment of these lesions in the absence of cases of malignant degeneration and the exceptional possibility of recurrences.
